Yacht charter is a great way to experience the open seas and all that they have to offer. However, yacht charters can be expensive, so it’s important to understand the different price levels before you book your trip.

There are different levels of yacht charter, and the cost of chartering a yacht can vary greatly. Each with its own set of features and amenities. The level you choose will depend on your budget and your desired level of service.

Bareboat charter: how much is cost?

Bareboat charters are the most affordable option.

With a bareboat charter, you are responsible for the operation of the yacht, including sailing, navigation, and maintenance. This means that you will need to have some experience with sailing or be willing to learn.

The cost of a bareboat charter will vary depending on the size of the yacht and the duration of the charter. However, you can expect to pay anywhere from €2,500 to €4,500 ex VAT and expenses (berth, food, fuel etc.) per week for a bareboat charter for a 40ft monohull. Sailing catamaran are more expensive:  €4,500 to € 10,000 per week for a Lagoon 40-45ft.
A securiy deposit is required.

Skippered sailing yacht charter

A skippered charter is a good option for those who want to experience the thrill of sailing without the responsibility of operating the yacht. With a skippered charter, a professional skipper will be on board to sail the yacht for you. However, the level of service (provisioning, cooking etc) remains the same as a bareboat charter without the need for previous sailing experience and no security deposit. You’ll need to provide your skipper with a separate cabin and food and drink for each day of your charter.

The cost of a skippered charter will is higher than a bareboat charter, but it will still be less expensive than a fully crewed charter. You can expect to pay between €6,500 and €15,000 per week ex VAT and expenses for a skippered charter on a monohull.

Fully crewed charter

A crewed charter is the most luxurious option. With a crewed charter, you will have a captain, chef, and hostess on board to take care of your every need. You will not have to lift a finger during your entire charter.

The hostess will take care of all the onboard needs, such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry. This level of service is ideal for groups of friends or families who want to enjoy a luxurious yacht charter without having to lift a finger.

The cost of a crewed charter is the highest of all the price levels, but it is also the most luxurious. You can expect to pay anywhere from €10,000 to €25,000 per week ex VAT and expenses for a crewed charter on a 60ft sailing boat, from €17,000 to € 28,000 on a 50ft sailing catamaran. Moror yacht are more expensive: €25,000 to € 40,000 per week.

Luxury crewed yacht charter

A luxury crewed charter is the most luxurious level of yacht charter. With a crewed charter, you will have a full crew to attend to your every need.  These charters offer the ultimate in luxury and service. You can expect to have a personal chef, butler, and masseuse on board. You will also have access to the latest toys, such as jet skis, water skis, and wakeboards.

This level of service is perfect for those who want the ultimate in relaxation and pampering. Budget starts from €50,000 ex VAT and expenses for luxury 75ft+ sailing boat to €1.5m+ for large and newer 200+ft megayachts.

Yacht charter cost: advice from a charter broker

When choosing a yacht charter, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

  • The length of the yacht and its pedigree: the size of the yacht will determine how many people can be accommodated. If you are traveling with a large group, you will need a larger yacht.
  • The duration of the charter: the duration of the charter will also affect the cost. Longer charters will be more expensive than shorter charters.
  • The amenities on board: The amenities on board will also affect the cost. Yachts with more amenities will be more expensive than yachts with fewer amenities.
  • The location: popular charter locations are more expensive than lesser-known location.

Once you have considered these factors, you can start looking for a yacht charter that meets your needs and budget.
