If you’re planning to charter a yacht, you might be wondering whether to choose an all-inclusive or separated charge option.
We’ll focus on the “Plus Expenses” charter in this article.
The length and type of yacht are two of the most significant factors that affect the cost of chartering a yacht: the longer the yacht, the higher the charter cost. However, chartering a prestigious new Feadship or Amels (Dutch quality yacht) is more expensive than chartering a yacht of the same size built by a lesser known shipyard.
A larger yacht built by a prestigious shipyard and silver crew with more amenities will generally cost more to charter than a smaller, more basic yacht. Similarly, luxury yachts with state-of-the-art facilities, the most advanced stabilisation system, and entertainment systems, will be more expensive to charter than more basic yachts.
A newer yacht will be chartered at a higher charter rate than a similar but older yacht.
Specific water toys can add up to the charter cost: submarine, chase boat etc.
Another factor that affects the cost of chartering a yacht is the destination.
Popular destinations like the Mediterranean and the Caribbean tend to be more expensive, while less popular destinations can be more affordable. Additionally, the time of year (High season Vs Low season) can also affect the cost of chartering a yacht, with peak season prices often being 10%-15% higher than off-season prices.

Choosing the right charter contract can make a significant difference to the overall cost and experience of your charter holiday. In France, the transport contract comes with a reduced VAT rate (10 or even 0% instead of 20%).
Yacht charter cost: duration of the charter
The duration of the charter is another significant factor that affects yacht charter cost.
Yachts are typically chartered by the week, with prices varying depending on the length of the charter. In general, the longer the charter, the lower the daily rate, so it may be more cost-effective to charter a yacht for a more extended period.
Additional expenses
In addition to the base charter fee, there are several additional expenses that you should be aware of. These include fuel costs, dockage fees, provisioning, and crew gratuities. Fuel costs can be significant, especially if you charter a fast sport yacht and plan to travel long distances at high cruising speed.
Dockage fees also vary depending on the destination, with some marinas charging more than others (St-Tropez, Porto Cervo…).
Provisioning is another additional expense that can add up quickly. This includes food and drink, which can be purchased before the charter or arranged through the yacht charter company.
Finally, crew gratuities are customary in the yachting industry, and they typically range from 10% to 20% of the base charter fee.
