16 August 2022

All you ever wanted to know

For guests – especially new charterers – who want to have a fabulous holiday on board a yacht, there are a few rules of etiquette to follow.

Following a few simple rules of yacht charter etiquette will help your trip run smoothly.

Here are a few do’s and don’ts to make your luxury holiday more enjoyable:

How to be a perfect charterer

  • Do Respect the crew and keep them informed.
  • Do respect the barefoot rule on board.
  • Anticipate crew cleaning times.
  • Be flexible with your itinerary (depending on the weather and if you opt for a last-minute charter).
  • Fill in the preference form in advance: a must for the crew in preparation for your charter.
  • Do not pollute the sea and waste fresh water.
  • Do not expect the crew to babysit your children.
  • Do not do anything illegal (drugs, weapons…).
  • Do not violate the smoking policy.
  • Do not enter crew areas without permission.
  • You must be in possession of a valid passport and the necessary visas and charter contract forms before embarking on your charter. It is a good idea to have a copy of your personal documents with you when you leave the yacht. As always, ask the captain and crew for advice on what is best.
