Enjoy a sustainable charter
As more and more people become environmentally conscious, it’s important for the yacht charter industry to adapt to meet the needs of these consumers. Not only is it important for the health of the planet, but it can also help you have a more enjoyable and memorable vacation.
Here are some tips for having an environmentally friendly yacht charter experience:
Choose an eco-friendly yacht
Look for yachts that use energy-efficient systems, such as LED lighting for example. Sailing yachts have a naturally smaller footprint than motor yachts. However, yacht builders, together with owners and brokers, are working hard to improve the sustainability credentials of yachts and limit their carbon footprint through alternative propulsion, green construction and life cycle management.
Yacht crew can also promote sustainability by using eco-friendly biodegradable cleaning products.
Pick your destination
When planning your yacht charter itinerary with your charter broker or captain, consider visiting destinations that are committed to sustainability. This could mean they have policies in place to protect local wildlife, or they have implemented initiatives to reduce their carbon footprint.
Support local businesses
One of the best ways to support sustainability while on your yacht charter is to choose local businesses. This not only helps the local economy, but it also reduces your carbon footprint as the products you’re purchasing haven’t had to be transported from far away.
Be mindful of energy use
While on your yacht, make an effort to conserve energy. Turn off lights when you’re not in the room, and use the air conditioning sparingly. You can also ask your crew to implement energy-saving measures, such as using the wind to power the yacht. On a fast motor yacht, reducing your cruising speed will also have a positive effect on your fuel costs and carbon footprint.
By following these simple tips, you can have a more sustainable yacht charter experience while also reducing your impact on the environment. And, who knows, you may even have a more enjoyable and memorable vacation in the process.
