All you ever wanted to know

For guests – especially new charterers – who want to have a luxurious holiday on board a yacht, there are a few rules of etiquette to follow.

Following a few simple rules of yacht charter etiquette will help your trip run smoothly.

Here are a few do’s and don’ts to make your luxury yacht charter more enjoyable:

Do's: how to be a perfect charterer

  • Complete the Preferences Form in advance so your crew can prepare your yacht based on your specific needs and preferences.
  • Do Respect the crew and keep them informed of your decision.
  • The barefoot policy: the barefoot rule represents a longstanding tradition aimed at maintaining the pristine condition of sensitive teak decking.
  • Anticipate crew cleaning times.
  • Be flexible with your itinerary (depending on the weather and especially if you opt for a last-minute charter).

Read our FAQ to find out more about your next luxury vacation.

Dont's...

  • Do not pollute the sea and waste fresh water.
  • Do not expect the crew to babysit your children.
  • Do not do anything illegal (drugs, weapons…).
  • Do not violate the onboard smoking policy.
  • Do not enter crew areas without permission.

Remi van der Deure, Charter Broker at Charterminte adds: “It is a good idea to have a copy of your personal documents with you when you leave the yacht. As always, ask your charter broker, the captain or crew for advice on what is best.

Remi van der Deure also underscores the importance of securing a valid passport, obtaining the requisite visas, and finalizing all charter contract documentation prior to embarkation.
